TIPS & SUPPORT
Advice and Tips to help manage your play
- Set out a budget and don’t go beyond this.
- Only play for the time you intended and take regular breaks when gambling.
- Make sure to balance gambling with other interests and hobbies.
- Set limits on your account that are realistic and feel comfortable for you
- Gambling should be for fun and entertainment not as a source of income.
- Don't turn to gambling as an alternative source of income or a way to pay back a debt.
- Don't gamble if you are in recovery for any dependency or if you’re under the influence of alcohol or any other substance.
What are the signs of problem gambling?
The following questions can help identify when your gambling behaviour has become a concern:
- Do you gamble to escape from problems in your life (boredom, unhappy home life, etc.)?
- If you run out of money when you're gambling do you feel lost and in despair, and want to find money to gamble again as soon as possible?
- Have you lied, stolen or borrowed to get money to gamble or pay gambling debts?
- Do you gamble until your last penny is gone, even if it was meant for something else?
- Do you put gambling before your family and other loved ones?
- Do you feel depressed or suicidal because of your gambling?
If you answer 'yes' to any of the above, it could indicate you are not fully in control of your gambling.
We recommend that you read through the details of our management tools below to consider if they would be of use to you and also think about if you need to reach out to a support organisation.
If you are concerned about your play and with to speak to someone, you can find details of support organisations further down this page.

SAFER GAMBLING TOOLS
Deposit Limits
You can set a deposit limit at any time on your account through the Safer Gambling menu.
Players can choose to set a Daily, Weekly or Monthly deposit limit.
Setting a deposit limit means you will not be able to deposit more than your chosen value in a set period of time.
- A Daily limit runs over a 24 hour rolling period
- A Weekly limit runs over a 7 day rolling period
- A Monthly limit runs from the 1st until the end of a month
If you choose to decrease a limit, this is applied immediately, however increases are subject to a 24 hour cool off period before the change can take effect.
You can choose to set a limit during your registration or at any time after by following this link.
Wager Limit (Sports)
You can set a wager limit at any time on your account through the Safer Gambling menu.
Setting a wager limit means you will not be able to wager more than your chosen value in a set period of time on Sports.
Players can choose to set a Daily, Weekly or Monthly wager limit.
When setting a Wager limit, you will be asked to choose an end date, when the limit will expire.
While a wager limit is in place, you can reduce it at any time via the Safer Gambling menu, making it more restrictive. Any reduction will take effect immediately. You will not be able to increase or remove the limit while it remains active.
While your limit is active, you will be opted out of receiving marking communications.
When the limit expires, you can choose to set a new Wager limit again via the Safer Gambling menu.
Time Out
You can take a Time Out from one (1) day up to six (6) weeks - within a few clicks from your betting account.
When you set a Time Out with us, we'll close your account for that chosen period.
You may withdraw any funds from your account before you start a Time Out.
Once a Time Out has started, any balance on your account will not be refunded automatically, so you'll need to contact the Customer Service Team via Live Chat if you wish to make a withdrawal.
While your account is timed out, you will be opted out of marketing. Although you are opted out immediately, it may be possible that marketing already in progress may still be received before this comes fully into effect.
If you'd like to set a Time Out click here.
At the end of your Time Out period, your account will automatically re-open and you'll be able to login. Any remaining balance on your account will be available to play.
If you would like to extend an active Break period on your account, please contact our support team via the chat function.
Self-Exclusion
If you find gambling is negatively impacting you personally, you may wish to take a break from our site for extended period of time. In order to do this, players have the option of Self-Exclusion.
When you choose a self-exclusion with us, we'll close your William Hill account for your chosen period from 6 months up to 5 years, or Indefinitely (min 12 months).
We take safer gambling very seriously, and if you try to open other accounts with us during your period of exclusion, we'll do our best to detect and close them.
If you would have any remaining balance on your account during your exclusion which you wish to withdraw, you can do this by contacting our support team via chat.
Should you wish to self-exclude, we strongly recommend that you delete/uninstall all apps or downloads connected to William Hill or any other gambling operators from all your devices.
When you exclude your account, you will be opted out of marketing. Although you are opted out immediately, it may be possible that marketing already in progress may still be received before this comes fully into effect.
If at the end of your self-exclusion you feel you're in control of your gambling and would like to reinstate your account, please contact our Customer Service Team who'll be happy to assist you.
A cooling off period will apply, and during this time you can again consider your decision.
If during your exclusion you decide you would like to extend your exclusion period, please contact our support team via chat.

OTHER TOOLS TO HELP YOU MANAGE YOUR PLAY
Reality Check
To help you manage your play, all players in Ireland have an hourly reality check on their account.
This means that every 60 minutes from the time you login, you will receive a pop up on site to let you know how long you have been playing, and what your net position is for the session.
Understanding your level of play
Curious about your playing style and want to get an idea of how positive your play is?
We have a quick and easy Responsible Gambling Quiz to help you figure out where you’re at with your playing.
Product Blocking
Product Blocking allows you to limit access to specific products on our site.
- Example: If you enjoy a wager on the horses, but do not want to be able to play Casino, we can block your access to Casino and you can go back to having fun just on sport.
- These restrictions can be applied to: Casino, Poker, Vegas, Games, Bingo, and Live Casino.
- However, this option is not available on Sports, Virtual Betting, or Lottery products.
If you'd like to block your access to specific products, please contact our Customer Service Team to help you do this.

SOCIAL MEDIA GAMBLING ADVERTS
- If you’ve decided to stop gambling or take a break, constantly seeing gambling ads on social media can feel frustrating and discouraging.
- The good news is that there are steps you can take to reduce your exposure to gambling-related content online.
Train the Algorithm
- Most social media platforms allow you to give feedback on the content you see.
- If a gambling ad appears, click the three dots on the post and select options such as “Not interested” or “Report ad.”
- Over time, this helps train the platform’s algorithm to show you fewer similar ads and posts.
Limit Ads
- Many social media platforms also allow users to adjust their ad preferences and opt out of certain types of gambling-related advertising.
- Check your account’s privacy or advertising settings to manage the types of content you see.
Mute Specific Words
- Some platforms allow you to mute or filter specific words and phrases.
- Adding terms such as “gambling,” “bet,” “betting,” “casino,” and similar keywords can help reduce the amount of gambling-related content that appears in your feed.
App Specific Guidance
- Limit Ads: Navigate to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Meta Accounts Centre> Ad Preferences > Ad Topics > Special Topics, and Deselect "Gambling".
X
- Limit Ads: Go to Your Privacy Settings > Interests From X > Toggle Off ‘Sports Betting.'
- Mute Words and Phrases: Settings and Privacy > Privacy and Safety > Mute and Block > Muted Words.
- Limit Ads: Navigate to Settings and Activity > Accounts Centre > Ad Preferences > Ad Topics > Special Topic > Deselect “gambling.”
- Mute Words and Phrases: Settings and Activity > Hidden Words.
TikTok
- Limit Ads: Navigate to Your Profile > Click the Three Lines in the Right Corner > Settings and Privacy > Ads > Manage Ad Topics > Other > Toggle ‘Real Money Gaming’ off.
- Mute words and phrases: Settings and Privacy > Content preferences > Filter video keywords.
Bluesky
- Unfortunately, Bluesky doesn’t have a specific way to turn off gambling ads.
- However, if you see a gambling ad, click the three dots and click “not interested” or “report,” which will stop the algorithm showing similar ads to you.
YouTube
- Limit Ads: Go to My Ad Centre > Make Sure Personalised Ads Are Turned on > Customise Ads > Sensitive, Then Toggle "Gambling" to "See Fewer."
Snapchat
- Snapchat does not provide a category-level block (e.g., gambling, alcohol, etc.).
- The only control available is reducing how much data is used to target ads.
- Instead, if you see a gambling ad, press down to report it, and you will start to see less content like this.
